AP, TS Surpass Tax Targets, Net Rs 36,663 Crores

In a record of sorts, the two Telugu States surpassed their targets for income tax collections during the 2015-16 financial year.

As against the target of Rs 36,251 crores, the two States collected Rs 36,663 crores for 2015-16, according to Suresh Babu, Principal Chief Commissioner, Department of Income Tax.

While the national growth was just 7.5%, the growth rate in the two States was 15.4%, Suresh Babu also said.

The taxes collected include Rs 21,381 crores under the Corporation Tax head and Rs 15,281 crores under others, he informed.

"We have exceeded our targets in collecting taxes. The department has done a better job this time, and the funds in turn will be used for the growth of the two States," he remarked.
