07.25 (IST): Later in the day, Indian men's hockey team will kick-start their campaign against Sri Lanka in a pool B match. The Asian Games will be the first major international hockey competition to feature the new format where the duration of the game has been reduced from 70 to 60 minutes. 07.05 (IST): Shooting medal! Indian shooters continue from where they left off on Day 1! Jitu Rai, Samaresh Jung and Prakash Nanjappa help India win team bronze in the Men's 10m Air Pistol event. They finished behind hosts South Korea and China. In fact, India finished on par score with China (1743) but the shot one bullseye fewer. (64 to China's 65).
In badminton, India ended a 28-year-old medal drought in the Asian Games after the women's shuttlers, led by Saina Nehwal and P V Sindhu, edged out Thailand 3-2 to reach the semifinals of the team event.
In what could be a rather one-sided contest, the Indian men's hockey team will take on Sri Lanka in a Pool B match at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium. After the islanders, the Sardar Singh-led side will face Oman on September 23 before more tough encounters against arch-rival Pakistan (September 25) and China (September 27).
Two-time gold medallist India, who stood top of the podium in 1966 and 1998, would definitely be looking for thumping wins over Sri Lanka and Oman to boost their confidence before they take on the big guns.
One of the biggest draws for India on Day 2 could be the squash women's singles quarterfinal between Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal. India should have another easy contest when the men's team take on Nepal in the second round.
