Hyderabad: If all goes well, pilgrimage centre Shirdi will soon have an airport to enable pilgrims to fly in to have a darshan of Saibaba.
The runway, taxiway and the terminal are being constructed at a fast pace and private flights could land from May or June this year.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has given a green signal for the flights after examining the landing and the facilities in airport. In the first phase, flights from Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru would land in Shirdi.
According to the Maharastra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) officials, the airport would be available for the commercial purposes from January 2017.
