GHMC to give 2-bedroom houses to government and private employees on subsidy

Hyderabad: Here is a good news for government as well as private sector employees in Hyderabad. Generally kept out of all welfare schemes, government and corporate employees whose annual income is below Rs6.00 lakh are now going to benefit from the Telangana government's most popular double-bedroom scheme. However, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will allot houses to employees residing under its limits on a subsidy.

Any urban citizen with an annual income below Rs 6 lakh, is eligible to own a house under the scheme, said Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K Taraka Rama Rao on Sunday. A proposal for the extension of the scheme was sent to the Centre for its contibution, he said, adding, the state government is all set to launch a massive housing programme for the urban middle class.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan said that the state government sought the Centre to grant funds for the double bedroom houses under Housing for All Scheme. “The consolidated estimation of total expenditure for a 2-bedroom house in GHMC limits is Rs. 9 lakh. If the Centre provides an amount of Rs. 2 lakh per unit, GHMC will give Rs. 2 lakh. The beneficiaries will have to bear an amount of Rs. 2 lakh, and the remaining amount will be provided by banks as loans. The terms and conditions of the eligibility under the scheme are yet to be made,” he said.

JNNURM houses for beneficiaries

The Mayor briefed that already constructed houses under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) in Hyderabad would be allotted to the beneficiaries under the massive housing scheme. The illegal existing occupants of those houses will be evacuated soon. The Centre is ready to give Rs. 12,000 per unit to construct toilets. Rs. 100 crore granted by Central government is a meagre allocation to build a Smart City which minister KTR had urged Centre to provide more funds, said Ram Mohan.

He said the problems on slaughter houses will be sorted out and they would be brought into use as a part of '100-days Plan of Action'.

Recycling of wastage units in Hyderabad soon

Mayor Ram Mohan said on the lines of practise in the national capital, a production unit of gravel and soil by recycling of construction wastage would be set up in the city soon. The construction sites for the unit are under consideration. He also added that recycling centers of solid wastage will also be set up in as many places as possible in the city.
