The first phase of master plan for the capital region being designed by the Government of Singapore will now cover 50,000 acres in Guntur district and would be completed in six months, Guntur MP and member of Capital planning committee, Galla Jayadev said here on Friday.
An additional 20,000 acres would also be acquired to meet the needs of the new capital region, Member of Parliament, Guntur and member of Capital planning committee, Galla Jayadev said here on Friday.
The State government has been stating that the first phase of capital region would consist of 30,000 acres to be acquired in 29 villages. But according to Mr. Jayadev, an additional 20,000 acres would be acquired either by Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) or by land acquisition.
Participating in a get together with reporters here, the MP said construction of a new Capital of Andhra Pradesh in VGTM region would be a ‘game changer’, and would transform the agrarian region into a throbbing urban agglomeration full of life and economic activity,.
“Building a world class capital is a game changer as the government is keen on building a liveable city with public utilities, plenty of green spaces and amenities like cycling pathways etc,’’ Mr. Jayadev said.
Mr. Jayadev, who visited Singapore and Japan along with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, said the requirements of a capital in Andhra Pradesh were different as the capital attracts lakhs of students, working professionals and other sectors. The situation is different in some countries like USA where most capital cities have been small cities whose names are not even known outside the country, he said.
The stretch between Guntur and Vijayawada has been identified as an ideal choice due to its central location, availability of high quality human resources and connectivity by rail and road, Mr. Jayadev said.
