HYDERABAD: Even as the TDP leadership tried to portray YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s recent Delhi visit as against the interests of Andhra Pradesh, for he had petitioned various key functionaries in the Union government to act on the cash-for-vote scam, Jaganmohan Reddy seems to have started refuting the charges of the yellow party, but in a different way.
In what could be seen as an attempt to make it clear that the YSRC would not compromise on the interests of the
www.mdas.co.uk state, particularly on the irrigation front, Jaganmohan Reddy, joining chorus with the AP government, on Sunday opposed the proposed Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme aimed at diverting the Krishna River waters to Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts in Telangana.
Jaganmohan Reddy wrote a letter to Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti urging her to stop the Telangana government from constructing unauthorised irrigation projects across the river Krishna. “I would like to bring to your kind notice that the Telangana government laid foundation for the construction of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy LI Scheme to lift 90 tmcft of water from the Krishna river in foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir. This will deprive Rayalaseema, Nellore and Prakasam districts in AP of irrigation water,” Jagan told Uma Bharti in his letter.
He alleged the proposed project does not have water allocation by any awards granted by the
www.zoopoo.co.uk tribunals constituted under the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956. According to him, Telangana government is going ahead with the proposed Palamuru-Ranga Reddy LI Scheme without approaching the authorities concerned — Krishna River Management Board and the Apex Council — for the project’s appraisal and approval.
“It is also relevant to the state here that TS chief minister KCR had laid the foundation-for the
www.glma.co.uk proposed project on June 11,” he stated and said, Rayalaseema, Nellore and Prakasam districts are drought-ridden and the scheme is highly detrimental to their interests.
