New Delhi: Raising the issue of cancellation of a mega food park in Amethi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said in Parliament on Thursday, “As politicians, our credibility is based on our work. What we say should carry some weight. During election campaign, the Prime Minister came to Amethi and in his speech he mentioned that he will do politics of change. “
“The Prime Minister mentioned that he is not going to do politics of revenge but silently this food park project was killed or attempt was made to shut it down. I feel that this is bad for the farmers and it is bad for the credibility of the PM”
However, Union minister for home affairs Rajnath Singh rebutted the claims of Mr Gandhi, while stating that his government was not vindictive but sought the cooperation of all in the development of the country.
He assured Mr Gandhi that he would examine the issue and revert back to him personally. Later, Union minister Smriti Irani hit out at Rahul Gandhi for his attack on the NDA government over a food park project in his constituency of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, saying he had ignored it for the last 10 years.
“The food park was announced in 2010, when the Congress government was there (at the Centre). Eight extensions were sought for the project as it was not considered viable. But did the MP take even eight steps to make the project a reality,” Irani said without naming Gandhi.
She charged that the foundation stone laying programme for the project was organised in 2013 to mislead the people. She also said that Amethi faces a slew of civic problems.
