Hyderabad: The two-bedroom housing scheme has come to the rescue of nearly 3 lakh families which have been awaiting payment of their bills of the Indiramma housing scheme for 19 months.
The government has decided to pay all the beneficiaries, who had stopped construction of their houses at various stages due to lack of money.
Citing largescale irregularities, the government had kept pending a decision on making the payments. The Indiramma houses were sanctioned during the Congress regime. Now, the government is of the view that if it does not pay Indiramma beneficiaries, they will queue up for 2BHK houses. The housing wing has asked revenue officials to verify the claims of 3 lakh applicants.
The verification has been completed in three districts, where the government needs to pay Rs 75 crore. The government will be releasing Rs 20,000 for Indiramma houses that are below basement level, Rs 45,000 at the basement stage and Rs 60,000 for those at the roof stage. Most houses are in the early stages, and the total bill could be Rs 1,800 crore.
