Decision to take up photography cost this man Rs 240 cr

Chris Hill-Scott, a 29-year-old Cambridge graduate must be cursing himself for his decision of taking up his passion – photography. Chris is one of the three founders of the predictive texting-app ‘SwiftKey’ which was bought by the software giant Microsoft on Wednesday for a whopping £174million (Rs 1.7 Thousand Crore).

While the 29-year-old co-founder of the texting tool, gave away his stake in the app for pursuing his dream of photography, his university friends and ‘Swift Key’ Co-founders Jon Reynolds, 30, and Ben Medlock, 36, have now sold the company to Microsoft and walked away with a £25million each (Rs. 240 cr).

It is reported that Chris, who now makes £50,000 per year by designing websites for the British government, had given away his shares seven years ago in return for a 'bicycle'.

Chris took to Twitter to express his regret after learning that his ‘SwiftKey’ was sold to Microsoft for a massive amount. “The biggest mistake I have ever made,” he tweeted.

The company’s spokesperson has conferment that the predictive text-app was founded by Chris, Jon and his friend from University, Ben. “Two months after forming the company, Chris decided to leave… Jon and Ben bought his shares. He left on good terms,” the spokesperson said.

SwiftKey’s app, which works in more than 100 languages and has been downloaded more than 10 million times, has topped the download rankings in 47 countries.

The technology also appears automatically on hundreds of millions of smartphones after the company did deals with businesses including Samsung, the Korean phone maker.
