Hyderabad: Evening rains for the third consecutive day had come as a huge relief to city people who were reeling under scorching temperatures and heatwave conditions throughout April. City received rainfall at different places on Wednesday evening in a pattern as it happened since last Saturday. Like always, the Met department predicted heavy rainfall with stormy weather for Thursday too.
The rains, though not very big, brought down day temperatures giving people relief from sweltering heat. Some places around city and in the city witnessed heavy rainfall and gales that uprooted trees. Hoardings at several places were ripped apart.
Y K Reddy, director, Met department said that the wind speed was at 80-100 kilometers per hour.
GHMC weather cell reported of trees getting uprooted at Paradise, Golconda gate and Panjagutta. GHMC executive engineer Hanumantha Rao said that the wind speed was so much that, in Banjara Hills a water tank came off from a commercial building and landed on a motorist. No major untoward incident happened, but the motorist suffered minor injuries.
