Jaganmohan Reddy, YCP leader, on Saturday stated in the AP Assembly that the TDP government was mounting an exercise to increase the electricity charges. He alleged that while current was available for a lesser rate, the government was trying to buy eclectricity at a higher rate and pass on the increase to the people.
Jagan further said that the APERC (Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Committee) proposal to increase the current rates was being opposed by the Central Energy Exchange. He, therefore, questioned the proposal to hike the electricity charges when the Central agency was opposing it.
The YCP leader said the current exercise was to steeply hike the electricity charges in the State.
Responding to the Jaganmohan Reddy charge, Minister Achchen Naidu said, when the TDP assumed power, the current availability was hopeless. But after taking the reins, the TDP government had managed the situation well.
He made a poser to Jagan that if power were availble for a lesser rate, why would the government go in for buying current at a higher rate? He chided the Opposition leader that he knew more about the problems of power generation companies than himself.
Achchen Naidu said if Jagan were to offer current at a lesser rate, the government was ready to buy power from him.
