Motorised vehicles soon for differently-abled students

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Vikalangula Cooperative Corporation, which was changed to Andhra Pradesh Differently Abled and Senior Citizens’ Assistance Corporation following  a GO Ms No.9 dated February 16, will distribute motorised vehicles to differently-abled students pursuing MCA, MBA, CA, M Ed, B Ed, B Tech, MBBS, Ph D, BL and LLB courses in the district.

As per the action plan of 2015-16 of the corporation, the welfare scheme was aimed at encouraging the differently-abled children in PG and professional courses on par with regular students. The government will provide 50 per cent of the motorised vehicle cost as subsidy not exceeding to Rs 30,000 and those obtain loan sanction letters from a scheduled bank only are eligible to get the subsidised vehicle.
 
So far, the corporation has distributed seven laptops to the visually impaired pursuing PG and other professional courses free of cost, while proposals were sent for another six candidates in the current fiscal against the district quota of 15. Similarly, it has distributed Digiplayers with in-built facilities of radio, memory card, record player and downloading of lessons free of cost to 30 visually impaired candidates from Class-XI to degree free of cost.

When contacted, assistant director, Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens, who is also district manager of AP Differently Abled and  Senior Citizens’ Assistance Corporation P Venkateswara Rao told The Hans India here on Tuesday all the welfare measures are aimed at encouraging  differently abled to excel in academics and professional courses.

He informed that the word senior citizens’ assistance was also added to the corporation recently as Andhra Pradesh Differently-Abled and Senior Citizens’ Assistance Corporation, they were planning to do something for senior citizens irrespective of their disability. “We are proposing to distribute walkers and hand sticks to them,” he added.

About motorised vehicles to differently abled students, the district manager informed interested candidates can contact the Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens Department located on the premises of Rani  Chandramani Devi Hospital, Peda Waltair, along with  prescribed application and certificates before 5 pm, March 8.

The certificates to be produced include college ID card/voter card/Aadhaar card, SSC or degree pass certificate, income certificate, certificate from District Medical Board, caste certificate, three passport size photos, residential certificate, college phone number, driving licence,  banker’s   letter to sanction loan, copy of  bank passbook and quotation from a vehicle dealer.
