Delhi Commission for Women chief Barkha Shukla on Thursday criticised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas's failure to appear before the commission after being summoned twice to clarify over his alleged affair with party volunteer and accused the party of working against women.

"This party had said that they will provide women safety, they did not do anything. They are working against the women. So we have written to home ministry, police commissioner and lieutenant governor seeking intervention in the matter," said Shukla.

"The victim wanted Kumar Vishwas to come and clarify the issue so that her (volunteer) family could be saved. We issued summons to Kumar Vishwas twice, but he didn't appear before the DCW. We just wanted to protect family life of a woman," she added.

Vishwas has been accused of having a physical relationship with a volunteer in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He had unsuccessfully contested against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.
The woman in question, who chose not to be identified, has alleged that Vishwas's wife has been spreading rumours that she found him in a compromising position with the AAP leader. She has also alleged that she is being defamed on the social media.

Vishwas had, however, yesterday termed the woman's allegations as baseless and put the onus on the Delhi Police, which he said did not take any action on her complaint.

Vishwas, who accused the media of twisting the entire story to malign the party's image, also said that the allegations were baseless and rival parties were out to defame him.
