In a brazen attempt to usurp power in all-important Jammalamadugu of YSR Kadapa district, Telugu Desam councillers threw chilli powder into the eyes of Kadapa MP and YSRCP leader YS Avinash Reddy.
The incident happened moments before the chairperson's election was to take place and right on the premises of the municipal office. The TDP, which does not have the required numbers to get its candidate elected to the chairperson's post, has been trying every trick in the trade to upstage the people's mandate.
The TDP tried to storm the office on Thursday and the throughout the day today, it ratcheted up tension in the town. The police had to repeatedly cane and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the berserk TDP crowds.
The YSRCP MP suffered minor injuries on his body. The incident led to tension in the town.
Earlier in the day, Avinash Reddy had said that TDP was resorting to malpractices to grab the post of Chairman of Jammalamadugu municipality though it does not have the required numbers.
