Hyderabad: Telangana is indebted to Ambedkar! It is only due to the provisions made by him in the Indian Constitution that Telangana exists today, charged the chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday.
The Telangana government on Thursday, organised grand celebrations on the occasion of 125 anniversary of the architect of Indian Constitution, Dr.B.R Ambedkar. The chief minister garlanded the Ambedkar statue at tank bund and paid tributes to him.
Thereafter speaking at the gathering that was organised on this occasion, KCR said that Telangana is indebted to Ambedkar as it was based on the legislation that was drafted by Ambedkar that Telangana was created. Without Ambedkar, Telangana would not exist, he said.
KCR announced plans to start 100 social welfare residential schools for Dalits and residential colleges, 25 for girls and 5 for boys, this year. He also announced plans for 50 residential schools for Girijans. The chief minister also announced the increase in foreign scholarship amount for Dalits, from Rs 10 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh.
Earlier in the day, KCR performed the bhoomi puja at lower tank bund for Ambedkar Towers, Centre for Dalit Studies and the 125 feet Ambedkar Statue. The union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, other ministers and officials participated in the program.
