Thane familicide: Saw him kill my son, hang himself, says Warerkar's sister

Thane: The 22-year-old sister of Husnain Warerkar, Subina Bharmal who survived the horrific attack by him is still under shock. However, she managed to narrate the incident to the police. She is undergoing treatment at Titan Hospital in Thane.

Doctors said she was out of danger and could be the prime witness in the case in which Husnain brutally killed 14 of his family members.

The police has recorded her statement in which she confirmed that her brother slit the throat of the family members, including that of her four-month-old son.

Still under shock, Subina’s husband Joseph Bharmal asked, “Why did he kill my son and hurt others? If he wanted to kill someone then why did he hurt himself?”

Joseph was however relieved to know that his wife Subina had survived.

In the statement she said that she was asleep and woke up when her brother tried to slit her throat. He even warned her not to shout. Then, in front of her, he killed her four month-old-son.

Later, her brother committed suicide by hanging. She somehow managed to crawl towards the window and screamed for help. Her neighbours broke open the window and cut the grills to get her out, the police said.

The sister has 25 stitches from her left ear towards the right-side chin. A woman police inspector was present with senior police officials from the Kasarvadavali police station at the hospital in the afternoon to take her statement.

“She told us that her brother insisted she come home for a get-together on Saturday. So all the siblings had reached home by Saturday afternoon. But at night Husnain slit her throat. She tried to shout but he clamped his hand over her mouth and later went out and locked the door of the room. She managed to crawl towards the window and screamed for help. Her neighbours broke open the window and cut the grills to get her out,” a police official said.

Police was finding it difficult to take her statement as Subina had problems in speaking clearly.

“She was not speaking coherently because of the injury and we didn’t get complete details of the incident. She saw him kill her four-month-old son but she could not do anything as she too was injured. She also saw him committing suicide by hanging,” the official added.

Subina was married last year and was quite close to her brother according to neighbours who have known them since their childhood.

The police said it would take her statement once again her recovery to get more clarity on the incident. “The motive behind the murders is still not clear,” the official said.
