Thiruvananthapuram: Repercussions of the JNU incidents in New Delhi are felt in down south. An anchor of a popular Malayalam TV news show has received more than 2,000 abusing calls after a discussion on Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
The coordinating editor Sindhu Sooryakumar was harassed after she moderated a discussion on whether celebrating Mahishasur Jayanti could be considered an act of treason on Friday night.
Activists and sympathisers of various pro-Hindutva groups accused her of calling Durga names during the show. It was the BJP state secretary VV Rajesh, who quoted from pamphlets that he claimed were distributed on the JNU campus and later produced in Parliament by HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
Five persons from the BJP, RSS and Hindu groups, including Sri Rama Sena were taken into custody.
