T-20 match: Anurag Thakur meets Himachal CM

The BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur called on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday and apprised him about the preparations for the ongoing India-Pakistan T-20 game to he held here on March 19. Mr. Thakur, president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, the host for match, said the schedule was decided in advance and the game could not be cancelled at the eleventh hour.

He told media persons that if the match was cancelled at this stage, it would give a bad name to the State and the country.

Mr. Thakur said there would be no exclusive Indo-Pak cricket series till bilateral relations become normal, but the March 19 game was an international match and it would be hosted “at any cost”. He reiterated that everybody respected martyrs and their families and could not forget their sacrifices. “We will not do anything that will bring a bad name to our martyrs or to our country,” said Mr. Thakur, who is also national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha that has been opposing the match with Pakistan.

He said he had high hopes that his home State would provide security for the match since he had a productive conversation with the Chief Minister.

Mr. Virbhadra Singh said his government respected the feelings of the families of the martyrs and if the HPCA could convince them, he had no problem in providing security for the match. He said if the ex-servicemen or their families opposed the match, the State government would not use force to stop them. Taking a dig at Mr. Thakur he said, he should have made efforts much earlier and talked to the ex-soldiers and their families.
