YSR Congress Party plans 'no-trust move'

YSR Congress Party plans 'no-trust move'

The main Opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) will be moving a no-confidence motion against the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government in the coming Budget session of the Assembly beginning on March 5.

The party will also issue a whip to all the MLAs, including those who have recently crossed over to the TDP. If they violate the whip, action will be initiated against them, sources said

“We are studying the possibility of moving a no-trust motion against both the State government and Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao,” party sources said. “If it is not possible to move both the motions in the same session, certainly a no-confidence move will be introduced against the government,” the sources told Metro India here on Monday. The party will also issue a whip to all the MLAs, including those who have recently crossed over to the TDP, the sources clarified and said if they violate the whip, action will be initiated against them.

Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday called for the Legislative Party meet with the locally available MLAs. Later, YSRCLP deputy leader Jyothula Nehru told media persons that the TDP government has failed to keep its promises and has been adopting ‘anti-people’ policies. Six YSRCP MLAs switched over to the TDP since Monday last. The Legislature Party discussed the issue of defectors at a meeting at the Lotus Pond. “Our case for disqualification of the defected MLAs becomes stronger if the whip is violated.

It may also act as a deterrent to others who are waiting to jump sides,” the sources said. Interestingly, nearly 10 MLAs did not attend the Legislature Party meeting amid speculation about their possible defection. Senior MLA G Srikanth Reddy dismissed the talk and said his colleagues had valid reasons for their absence.

Jagan held talks with his party MLAs from Nellore district separately to ascertain if any of them was on the way out. The MLAs, however, were said to have assured Jagan that there was no question of their leaving the party. The strength of the main Opposition in the 175-member House has fallen to 61 because of the crossover of the MLAs, while the TDP’s number has risen to 110.

The YSRCP leaders asked Chandrababu Naidu to stop luring the Opposition MLAs and concentrate on development of the State, particularly after a lot of injustice was done to the State in the Union budgetary proposals presented to Parliament on Monday. The MLAs, who separately met Jagan, reposed complete faith in his leadership and said that there was no question of their deserting the party.
