Counters not open, 2BHKs are houseful in Ranga Reddy district

Hyderabad: Though the government has not yet issued any guidelines for receiving applications for 2BHK houses, thousands of applicants are crowding the Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad collectorates to submit applications.

Over 70,000 applications have been received in Ranga Reddy district while thousands of people are approaching the Hyderabad collectorate to submit applications and are being turned back.

As per the government order GO-12 issued earlier, officials had to finalise lists with 400 beneficiaries in each Assembly segment. But during a press conference held in connection with the GHMC poll results on February 5, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that 1-lakh 2BHK houses would be built in GHMC limits.

As per this announcement, the government should release an order regarding the eligibility criteria along with guidelines. Revenue officials are expecting the order after the Assembly Budget session.

Officials have been sending list of beneficiaries selected under various housing sche-mes during the previous governments for converting them to the 2BHK scheme. As many as 1,83,537 beneficiaries were selected by the Hyderabad administration out of whom 35,067 had submitted DDs of  Rs 1,000 in 2005 and have been waiting for houses.

In Ranga Reddy district, nearly 18,000 beneficiaries were selected and about 50 per cent paid Rs 1,000 for houses.

Hyderabad district housing project director R. Prakash said they had installed signs at the collectorate stating that no applications would be received.

“In Hyderabad, the selection process for 2BHK scheme will be done by the GHMC and aspirants must submit their applications with ward committees. We have sent the list of earlier selected beneficiaries to the government and are awaiting a decision,” he said.

Ranga Reddy district joint collector-2 Amrapali Kata said thousands of applicants were crowding the collectorate. “We have been advising them not to come to the collectorate. For three days, police has been controlling the crowds and we have been announcing over public announcement systems that we are not receiving applications. We don’t know how they are obtaining the forms,” she said.

Poor cheated of Rs 46 lakh

Middlemen, workers of political parties and women’s groups are exploiting poor people by selling ‘applications’ for the 2BHK scheme.

The middlemen are luring the poor stating that very few applications will be sold and if they don’t move now, they might lose the chance to apply for the scheme.
They are selling application forms (old-proforma under Indiramma houses) for Rs 30 to Rs 50 and charging Rs 50 to Rs 100 for filling the forms.

The Ranga Reddy administration has received 70,000 applications, indicating that the poor were conned out of Rs 21 lakh (at Rs 30 an application) in four days. Touts would have made more than Rs 25 lakh just to fill the forms.
Ranga Reddy joint collector-2 Amrapali Kata said no proforma for the application had been finalised. “Once the government issues guidelines, the revenue depar-tment will supply the applications,” she said.

Land in city not marked for 2BHKs

Hyderabad district officials have not identified the land for 1 lakh 2BHK flats. A high-level meeting with revenue officials was chaired by the collector on Satur-day for the purpose.

Ranga Reddy district officials have identified the land parcels and are now looking for land under the GHMC limits.

Officials have identified 31 acres at Medchal for developing 17 layouts for 2BHKs.

They identified land at Ibrahimpatnam (22.21 acre), Rajendran-agar (7.08 acre), Che-vella (20.25 acre), Vika-rabad (22.08 acre), Qut-hbullapur (5 acre), Tan-door (39.04 acre), Parigi (3.06 acre) and Serilin-gampally (3 acre).
