The political parties intensified their campaign on Thursday in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) as the elections will be held for 58 divisions on March 6. The ruling TRS party has deputed ministers for the campaign and Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Ministers KTR, T Harish Rao, Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Etela Rajender and Jogu Ramanna are camping in Warangal and held road shows and public meetings in the cities of Warangal, Hanmakond and Kazipet.
Speaking at ‘meet the press’ organised by Warangal Press Club at Hanmakonda, KadiyamSrihari said the Chief Minister was keen on transforming Warangal as slum-free city and measures have already been taken to fulfill the dream. He said KCR has released Rs 8.90 crores to bring water from Godavari Lift Irrigation Scheme (GLIS) in the current summer to solve drinking water problem. An ORR was proposed around Warangal and it would be completed in the next three years.
He further said Infosys campus would likely to be setup in Warangal to ensure jobs to the unemployed graduates. He appealed to the voters think twice before exercising their franchise and vote for the TRS candidates as the government would take steps for overall development of Warangal with special packages. Congress party State president Uttamkumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and former TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah were also actively campaigning in the towns.
TDP working president Revanth Reddy, Telangana TDP president L Ramana and party senior leaders were campaigning in all the 58 divisions till the night on Wednesday. BJP president G Kishan Reddy and MLA Laxman took part in the electioneering in the GWMC elections. Speaking at an election rally, Ponnala Lakshmaiah lashed out at the TRS government for ignoring the promises and alleged that TRS was working for selfish ends.
Meanwhile, CPI has also fielded candidates in 5 divisions and the party State secretary ChadaVenkat Reddy is kicking off campaign from Friday. About 11 CPM candidates were contesting in the elections and its State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram too participated in the campaign.
Number of woman candidates was too increased in the GWMC elections this time. TRS rebel candidates and some independents were in the fray in many divisions. Commissioner of police G Sudheerbabu said special teams have been constituted to avoid untoward incidents for the elections and Section 144 was imposed in the city limits till the end of GWMC elections.
