Justice A Ramalingeshwara Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday heard senior counsel and former Solicitor General Indira Jai Singh in the case relating to YSRCP MLA K Roja.
As reported earlier, the MLA, who was suspended for a year from the Assembly, questioned the said decision of the Speaker. When attempts for speedy adjudication did not succeed, she moved the apex court. The Apex Court on Tuesday voiced concern at the manner in which the order was passed and the failure of the High Court to hear the matter and directed the matter to be heard on Wednesday.
The Acting Chief Justice allotted the matter to Justice A Ramalingeshwara Rao, who is likely to pronounce his verdict on Thursday. Additional Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh D Srinivas argued that there were instances where members had been suspended for more than a period of one year. He cited Tamilnadu instance. He also argued that Article 194(3) of the Constitution provided powers to the legislature to discipline its members.
