VISAKHAPATNAM: After getting the Smart City tag, the works for the Smart City master plan for Visakhapatnam are all set to begin.
Authorities from district administration, GVMC, VUDA and city police had a meeting with AECOM, IBM and KPMG, the consultants, on Friday.
On the occasion, collector N Yuvaraj, describing Visakhapatnam as the fastest developing city in the country, asked the consultants to prepare the master plan of the Smart City by factoring in the needs of all departments on priority basis.
The first phase of the master plan preparation would take almost five months. Police commissioner Amit Garg appealed to the consultants to elicit views and suggestions from people as they did during the Smart City challenge.
The master plan will be prepared in three phases in 15 months. GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar explained the Smart City goals to the consultants. He said that water supply, drainage system, transportation, energy and a few other sectors will be considered in the first phase of the master plan and the other sectors will be covered in the subsequent phases. Pravin also asked the officials to elicit public opinion at every stage of the master plan.
AECOM associate vice-president John Bechman requested the officials to offer them necessary information to prepare the master plan. The officials would be visiting various sectors and areas in the ensuing days.
