The London Stock Exchange has assured the Andhra Pradesh government of helping it raise funds for taking up development activities in its capital Amaravati. This was disclosed by London Stock Exchange CEO Nikhil Rathi, during his meeting with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in London on Friday. Rathi came forward to help AP raise funds for the construction of Amaravati.
Naidu, who is in London to attract investments for the State, urged Rathi to invest in Amaravati and enquired about the possibility of his organisation helping AP in building international standard infrastructure facilities in its new capital city.
The Chief Minister also discussed the issue of setting up a financial district in Amaravati with the Stock Exchange officials.
Naidu, who is leading a high-powered delegation, including Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and other senior officials, visited Canary Wharf, a major business district located in Tower Hamlets in East London. He called upon the representatives of various companies to invest in Amaravati. “Be a partner in the development of futuristic capital Amaravati. We have a rare opportunity to build a world class capital for AP. I request you all to make Amaravati your second home and be a part of our people’s capital,” he said.
About 20 top companies of London, including Greater London Authority, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Catapult, Vodafone, Rolls-Royce, Herbert Smith Freehills, JCB, UK Export Finace, ARM, Mace and Mott MacDonald, made a presentation on smart cities and explained to the Chief Minister about the best practices in the world.
Responding positively, the company representatives assured Chief Minister Naidu that they would be sending their delegations to Amaravati to look into the possibility of investment in the State. Naidu also visited various tourism centres in London and discussed with officials concerned about the possibility of developing such centres in AP, especially in Amaravati. After seeing world famous ‘London Eye’, a highly impressed Naidu announced that he would try to set up a similar structure in Amaravati to attract tourists from across the globe.
The London Eye, a very popular tourist attraction in London, is a giant observation wheel located in the Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank. The 135-metre (443ft) tall structure was built as part of London’s millennium celebrations.
Earlier in the day, Naidu paid his tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in British Parliament. Later, he took part in a presentation on UK smart cities’ expertise. During the day, he held one-on-one meetings with representatives of various companies elaborating on the investment potential of AP.
