Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Tuesday confirmed that Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar was murdered in her hotel room in January last year. Sunanda Pushkar was staying at the Leela Hotel when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Bassi said according to the post mortem the death was not natural and was due to poisoning. "Post mortem report does not say whether poisoning was taken or injected. We will investigate whether poison was consumed or injected. We need to send samples abroad.We have registered a case."

Case has been registered under Section 302 and other relevant section against unknown people. All relevant people will be questioned in the case.

Bassi added, "I have told earlier that we are doing everything possible. We want to continue the investigation to probe further. A special team formed under the DCP South."

Sources said that Shashi Tharoor and his family will be questioned soon.
