Christians in Kakinada, observed their holy week with faith and great piety , all the churches in Kakinada were busy, with devotees attending various spiritual rituals according to the holy bible and teachings of Christ Jesus.
The days of observance before Sunday Easter is Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.Maundy Thursday, also known as “Holy Thursday,” is one day before Good Friday (the Friday before Easter). Maundy Thursday is the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples, known as the Last Supper. “Maundy Thursday” refers to the command Jesus gave to the disciples at the Last Supper, that they should love and serve one another.
On this day Jesus showed the path of love and forgiveness by setting an example of washing the feet of his 12 disciples, in commutation with this here in Kakinada , Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Vargheesh Jose washed the feet and kissed the feet of 12 faithful in catholic church parish, of which 6 women were also were chosen as disciples, this is for the first time in catholic church history, that the feet of women were also wasted , as per the call from Pope Fransis , Which is a sign of Gender Equality.
Washing of feet is in remembrance of how Christ humbled Himself and washed the feet of the disciples is a powerful reminder of how we are to live the Christian life
Friday morning faithful of catholic church took a big prayer procession called way of the Cross, through the streets of Kakianda, symbolising the passion of Christ , in remebrance with the agony and suffering of Jesus Christ taking 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, all the faithful of Sacred heart church took part in all the religious celebrations of Good Friday under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Fr. Jose Vargheesh.
