Kerala Police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the passing away of Malayalam film actor Kalabhavan Mani after traces of methyl alcohol were found in his body. Mani, 45, died in a private hospital in Kochi on Sunday evening.
Police sources said a case of natural death was registered and the body would be handed over to the relatives after postmortem, which would be held at government medical college, Thrissur, before Monday noon.
Mani was admitted to Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi on Saturday. Mani has been under treatment for liver-related ailment for quite some time. However, he was found unconscious at an outhouse in his farm at Chalakkudy in Thrissur on Saturday. Initially, Mani was admitted to a local hospital, from where he was shifted to Kochi as the condition worsened. Doctors at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences noticed presence of methyl alcohol in his blood. Subsequently, they alerted police, leading to registering a case. But, police could not record the statement of Mani due to his deteriorating health condition.
Meanwhile, police had searched the outhouse near his house, where Mani had spent time with three friends. Police would soon take the statement of the friends.
