Long pending proposal to launch a single national emergency number is coming into action within months. India's emergency number would be 112, like 911 in USA and 999 in Britain.
The single emergency number nationwide connects to all the emergency services like ambulance, fire-service, police along with many other affiliated emergency services. India's telecom regulator brought the proposal of single national emergency number 112, instead of using 100 for police, 101 for fire services, 102 for ambulance and 108 for disaster management.
Once 112 proposal gets final approval from telecoms minister, it will be launched to use and the individual service numbers are planned for removal at a later stage. So if you have any kind of emergency, dial 112, only after the official launch.
