Vijayawada: The National Mazdoor Union (NMU) on Friday established a clear lead with 552 votes across the 13 districts in the APSRTC recognized union elections held on Thursday. The NMU, which is the existing recognized union in the State, continued its lead in a tough battle fought by eight unions in the RTC.
The NMU had retained its lead in all the four zones of Vizianagaram, Vijayawada, Nellore and Kadapa, besides Hyderabad. In all, 56,426 voters have exercised their franchise on Thursday and sealed the fate of the eight warring unions in 129 depots spread over the 13 districts of the State.
As counting of votes began the same day evening, the NMU remained ahead right from the first round in majority of the districts. Though the YSR Congress had joined the fight this time and contested, it could win just the Pulivendula depot,
while losing the rest. Its impact too was not felt in majority of the divisions even though the party has the presence of legislators in the areas. The Employees Union had put up a tough fight in all the depots giving sleepless nights to the NMU leadership.
