Close to 46 girl students from the Social Welfare Residential School and Junior College, Mahendra Hills, Secunderabad, were admitted to State-run Fever Hospital, Nallakunta, with symptoms of food poisoning on Monday. All through the day, the hospital received a steady stream of girl students from the residential welfare school complaining of abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting, which are the typical symptoms of food poisoning.
According to the attending healthcare workers of the hospital, the girl students reported that they had consumed fried rice along with egg curry on Sunday evening and khichdi early on Monday. By noon, close to 19 girls were admitted to the hospital and by evening, another batch of 26 students were admitted to the hospital. One girl student was admitted to the hospital immediately after having the food on Sunday night itself, Fever Hospital officials said.
The treating doctors at Fever Hospital said that they managed to stabilise the health condition of the girls. “All the girl students are stable now. They came with typical symptoms of food poisoning after having fried rice, egg curry and khichdi in their hostel. We have collected samples and have sent them for testing. They are stable, but we need to keep them under observation for a day or two,” says Superintendent, Fever Hospital, Dr. K. Shankar.
Meanwhile, the district medical and health officials assured that all efforts are being made to stabilise the health of the girls. Teachers of the residential school were also in the hospital to take care of the girls admitted, they added.
