Hyderabad Metro to get 83 km extension

Hyderabad Metro to get 83 km extension

Hyderabad:  In all probability, the Hyderabad Metro Rail will get an additional 83 kilometres of extension in the coming years. As part of this, the government appointed consultant Lee Associates has begun studying the viability of extension on five routes.

Responding to a question during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council, Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao informed that the government had asked the consultant to find out the feasibility of taking up work on five routes, which included stretches from Miyapur to Patancheru (13 kms), L B Nagar to Hayatnagar (5 kms), Nagole to Shamshabad (28 kms),

Tarnaka to ECIL (9 kms) and Rayadurgam to Shamshabad (via Gachibowli) (28 kms). He said that apart from the current work being taken up in three phases, this extension would ease the traffic flow and provide commuters with the best option to travel.

Rama Rao clarified that the work on all the three corridors was on schedule and there was no truth in the claims that the project was being delayed. Reacting to the proposal for connecting the Outer Ring Road at several places, he said that within the radius of ORR there were 180 villages, and therefore it was not feasible at this juncture. He also ruled out the possibility of extending the Metro Rail towards Shamirpet because of various reasons, including the clearances from Military Cantonment.

He assured that the government would find a solution to the realignment of the Metro line in parts of Old City shortly by convening a meeting of the leaders of MIM, including party chief Asaduddin Owaisi by next month. He pointed out that a survey was already done and even markings were also made. “There was a need for cooperation from the party leadership in the 5.5 kms of stretch. It is not a big issue, we shall resolve it,” he assured.

With an aim to clear the ever-increasing rush of pilgrims to Yadadri, the Minister informed that the government had initiated the process of taking up works on the road leading to Yadagirigutta temple, and had allocated Rs 100 crore each year for development of the temple. “We were able to get clearance from the Centre for extending the project towards temple town within 10 days,” he added.
